Trump announces he plans to speak with Putin soon

The U.S. President, Donald Trump, announced that he plans to soon have a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin. The US president gave an interview to Politico and, on the eve of his meeting with the leader of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, maintained that "it will go well with him". "I think it will go well with Putin," he said, adding that he plans to talk to the Russian president "soon, as much as I want to." This Wednesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov stated that, for now, a phone call between Putin and Trump is not planned.

Previous calls Last week, Peskov pointed out that the last telephone conversation between the leaders took place on October 16. For his part, Trump stated on December 15 that he had spoken "recently, directly with Putin".

The October 16 call was described as "very productive" by Trump and as "very substantive and, at the same time, extremely frank and confidential" by the Russian side.
The previous telephone conversation between Putin and Trump took place on August 18, three days after their historic meeting in Alaska. Then, Trump informed his Russian counterpart about the negotiations he held that day with European leaders and with the leader of the Kiev regime, Volodymyr Zelensky.
