Woman dies after jumping from a building on UTESA campus, in Santiago

Santiago.- A 54-year-old woman died this Friday after jumping from the fourth level of one of the buildings of the Technological University of Santiago (UTESA), a campus located on Estrella Sadhalá Avenue, near the Southern Ring Road of this city. The victim was identified as "Elizabeth María Liriano González Rodríguez", a resident of the Ensanche Ortega sector. The event occurred around 8:00 this morning, according to authorities and family members. According to statements offered by her husband, Rafael González, the woman suffered from depression and had previously attempted to take her own life. He indicated that the deceased appeared at the university campus and, moments later, the event occurred. He pointed out that, upon noticing her absence, he tried to locate her, and was later informed by the National Police.

The institution of order communicated what happened to the family members, while the event caused consternation among relatives and neighbors of the community, who expressed sorrow for the decision made by the lady. The body was taken by the medical examiner who certified the death and transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) of Santiago, where the required autopsy will be performed for legal purposes. Faced with the first suicide recorded in this city, the authorities called for attention to mental health and to seek professional help in any situation of risk.
