Who is Jorge Subero Isa?

Jorge A. Subero Isa was born on March 9, 1947, in San José de Ocoa, Dominican Republic. He is the son of Rafael Antonio Subero and Josefa Emilia Isa, Dominicans of Lebanese descent. He completed his primary studies at the Julia Molina School and his high school studies at the José Núñez de Cáceres High School, both in his hometown. He entered the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) in 1965, graduating with a Doctor of Law degree on March 25, 1970. During his student years, he worked in the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic. He began his teaching career in 1974 at the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU) teaching the subjects of General Principles of Law, Private International Law and Obligations.

In 1984, he founded the School of Law of the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE), where he taught the subjects of Private International Law, Obligations, Civil Liability, Introduction to Law, as well as Interpretation of Legal Texts. This educational institution recognized him as Professor Emeritus in 2011. Early years of professional practice On March 12, 1973, he was appointed Public Notary of the National District by the Supreme Court of Justice. Since his graduation and with the exception of the period he held as Claims Manager and Legal Advisor of the Insurance Company San Rafael C x A (1974-1977), he dedicated himself to the private practice of Law with emphasis on civil liability, civil law and insurance. During the period 1979-1981 he was elected President of the Dominican College of Notaries. In 1989, he was a member of the Dominican Commission for the Implementation of a System of Equivalencies of University Degrees between the Kingdom of Spain and the Dominican Republic. He was also a member until 1997 of the Conciliation and Arbitration Council of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of the National District, where on several occasions he was chosen to be part of the arbitration tribunal. Supreme Court of Justice On August 3, 1997, he was appointed President of the Supreme Court of Justice by the National Council of the Magistracy, being the first president appointed by said body since its creation in 1994, a position he held after his time as president of the Central Electoral Board. During his tenure, he was responsible for presiding over the Boards of Directors of the National School of the Judiciary and the National Public Defense Office, as well as the Judicial Council. In 2011, during the evaluation process to confirm or not the judges of the Supreme Court of Justice in accordance with the mandate of the 2010 Constitution, he was not confirmed by the National Council of the Magistracy in the position of President but was ratified as a member judge, and resigned from the position.
