Santo Domingo. – The Price Stabilization Institute (Inespre) will install mobile warehouses near the country's penitentiary centers during visiting days for inmates, as part of an inter-institutional initiative to facilitate access to quality food at affordable prices. The information was offered after a working meeting led by the directors of Inespre, David Herrera Díaz; the director of Penitentiary and Correctional Services, Roberto Santana; and the director of the Directorate of Social Assistance and Community Food, Edgar Augusto Félix Méndez. In the meeting, it was also proposed that national producers who work with Inespre supply the Economic Dining Halls, which are in charge of providing cooked food to the inmates, with their harvests.

During the meeting, Herrera Díaz explained that this initiative seeks to alleviate the economic burden on the families of those deprived of their liberty, who during visiting days will be able to purchase food products at a low cost to supply their relatives. Also, the official announced the completion of a national program through which trucks loaded with food will reach all penitentiary facilities in the country. "We are making this announcement at a time when we conclude this Sunday a Great Agricultural Fair in San José de Ocoa and last Thursday and Friday we took the Food Route to the province of Peravia," said the director of Inespre. He also informed that this week, which begins, they will hold 60 Producer Markets in the same number of communities. From his side, Roberto Santana valued the role played by Inespre in the supply of food to the population and highlighted the positive impact that this agreement will have on the pockets of the families of people who are serving or awaiting a sentence. "The installation of mobile warehouses in the vicinity of the prisons is of significant importance to the relatives of the inmates, who, although they receive food assistance from the State, always hope to bring other items during visiting days," he expressed. The possibility of producers working with Inespre supplying food to the Economic Dining Halls was also discussed at the working table, an initiative that was supported by Edgar Augusto Félix Méndez. The official pointed out that this measure would guarantee a secure market for national producers and would allow the dining halls to be supplied with fresh food coming directly from the field. The details of this initiative were offered prior to the participation of the officials in the Second Meeting of Directors of Centers and staff of Penitentiary and Correctional Services.
