Macron expresses his condolences for the Spanish train disaster: France is by your side

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his sorrow on Sunday for the "railway tragedy" in Spain, where at least 21 people lost their lives due to a collision of two trains in Andalusia (south of the country), which also caused 15 serious injuries and 75 people hospitalized.

"A railway tragedy strikes Andalusia. Thoughts for the victims, their families, and all the Spanish people. France is by your side," wrote the French head of state on the social network.

The train accident has occurred in Adamuz (Córdoba, Andalusia), where, for unknown reasons, a train from the company Iryo derailed, impacting an Alvia train from the company Renfe. The driver of this second train is among the deceased. The event is "rare and difficult to explain," according to what the Spanish Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, told the media, because the train that caused the crash is relatively new and the infrastructure had been renovated very recently. The accident this Sunday is the most serious railway disaster to occur in Spain since 2013, when 79 people died and 143 others were injured when a high-speed train derailed on the Madrid-Ferrol route, near Santiago de Compostela. At that time, excessive speed was the cause of the accident.
