Ricardo de los Santos highlights Ramón Alburquerque's democratic legacy at his wake

Santo Domingo.– The President of the Senate, Ricardo de los Santos, stated that the Dominican Republic has lost one of its greatest intellectuals and defenders of democracy, referring to the death of Ramón Alburquerque, during statements made at the Memorial funeral home, where his remains are being viewed.

De los Santos highlighted that Alburquerque was an upright man, entirely dedicated to the struggle in favor of the country and democratic values, without distinction of political affiliations.

"The Dominican Republic has lost an intellectual, a man who gave everything for the democracy of our country, a man who dedicated himself entirely to fight for the benefit of our nation, completely upright," stated De Los Santos.

He pointed out that his greatest legacy is having contributed to the construction of a strong and solid democracy, which Dominican society enjoys today, also leaving an example and hope for new generations, by demonstrating that it is always worth fighting for what is considered fair and beneficial for the majority of the people.

The wake of the political leader is taking place in an intimate atmosphere and without access to the press. Prominent political figures and colleagues from the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) have attended the place, including former president Hipólito Mejía, Fafa Taveras, Carolina Mejía and Tomás Hernández Alberto, as well as other leaders and associates.

It is recalled that, during his political career, he served as President of the Senate of the Republic for three consecutive terms (1998-1999, 1999-2000 and 2000-2001), when he was a member of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), leaving a significant mark on the legislative and political work of the country.
