Kyiv.- Ukrainian negotiator Rustem Umerov has confirmed the announcement made previously by Moscow that Russians, Ukrainians, and Americans will meet again on February 17 and 18 in the Swiss city of Geneva, within the framework of the trilateral contacts that the parties are maintaining at the initiative of Washington to reach a peace agreement.
Umérov announced that, in addition to him, the Ukrainian delegation will include the head of the presidential office, Kirilo Budánov; the head of the General Staff, Andrí Gnátov; the leader of the governmental parliamentary group, David Arajamia; the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrí Kislitsia, and the number two of military intelligence, Vadim Skibitski. You may be interested in: Russia confirms the agreement to resume negotiations on Ukraine next week
The Ukrainian negotiator - who is the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine - explained that the Ukrainian delegation was chosen by President Volodymyr Zelensky to cover the "military, political and security" aspects of the negotiations with guarantees. "We will work to ensure that there are substantial decisions within the framework defined by the head of state," wrote Umerov, who added that the Ukrainian objective remains to achieve "a solid and lasting peace." Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. have already held two rounds of trilateral contacts this year in the United Arab Emirates, similar to the one that will take place next week in Switzerland. According to the three parties, the main obstacle to achieving peace is the division of the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine. Russia has conquered more than three-quarters of the region and demands that Ukraine hand over the territory still under Kyiv's control, which refuses to give up what it has not lost on the battlefield.
