Santo Domingo.— Following the letter sent from prison by Yokairy Sosa to the Attorney General of the Republic, which —according to those close to her— did not receive a response, a case that has generated deep concern in different sectors of society is gaining momentum again. The public complaint states that a person had been in prison for two years fulfilling a 12-year sentence, as a result of what is described as a defective investigation by the Public Ministry. The case gains greater relevance after the declaration of Enmanuel Antonio Almarante, identified as the confessed perpetrator of the robbery and sentenced to 15 years in prison, was made public, whose version —according to the complainants— would yield elements that question the original accusation and the construction of the file presented before the courts.

According to the family members and representatives of the affected party, the case file would have been based on insufficient or inconsistent evidence, which led to a conviction that is now subject to review and public debate. Social organizations and human rights defenders have stated that this case highlights the need to strengthen investigation processes, guarantee due process, and ensure that the actions of the justice system are based on solid and verifiable evidence. "Be witnesses to whom the Public Ministry accused and fabricated a case against," expressed those close to him, insisting that the complete truth must come to light and that the corresponding reviews be carried out.

It is expected that the competent authorities will offer an official response to the concerns raised and that transparency in the process is guaranteed.
