EDEESTE dismantles clandestine underground connection in 11-apartment building in La Romana

La Romana.- The Eastern Electricity Distribution Company (EDEEste) detected a sophisticated illegal connection in a three-story building located in the Reparto Torre sector, Villa Hermosa municipality. The property, which consists of 11 apartments, had an electricity contract that was voluntarily terminated in July 2025; however, the presence of the meter without an active supply prompted a technical inspection. During the operation, the personnel identified a copper cable powered at 240 volts that entered underground from the public road to the building. To completely eliminate this irregularity, it was necessary to break the street to remove the illegal wiring designed to evade consumption controls.

This case is part of the various fraud modalities detected by the company, such as clandestine splices and meter manipulations that affect the stability of the electrical system. EDEEste reported that it maintains active monitoring with the building's tenants to achieve the total regularization of each unit through formal contracts.
