Santo Domingo.- The Dominican electricity sector reported that the recovery of the National Interconnected Electrical System (SENI) is progressing steadily, following the national blackout recorded this Monday morning.
The authorities explained that the interruption originated from the tripping of the 138-kilovolt Hainamosa–Villa Duarte line's circuit breaker, which caused a major failure in the grid.

In a second bulletin issued around 8:00 p.m., it was indicated that the system exceeds 60% of synchronized generation, reflecting progress in the stabilization of the network and allowing the gradual incorporation of new areas into service. The Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, explained that the recovery is carried out under strict technical criteria to ensure a safe and progressive replacement, preserving the stability of the system and avoiding further damage. He reported that various areas of the country already have partially or fully restored service, while others continue to integrate as technical maneuvers progress, prioritizing operational safety and supply reliability. From early hours, the southern region was energized, including San Juan, Barahona, Azua, and Baní. Also, San Cristóbal, Bonao, La Vega, Santiago de los Caballeros, the Northwest Line, Puerto Plata, San Francisco de Macorís, as well as different sectors of the National District and San Pedro de Macorís, have most of the service restored. The minister indicated that technical brigades from the different entities of the sector remain deployed and working continuously until the total normalization of the electrical service throughout the national territory is achieved.
