New York Times hires journalists fired from the Washington Post for its sports coverage

Washington.- The New York Times announced this Thursday the hiring of half a dozen journalists fired days ago by The Washington Post to reinforce its sports coverage in the American capital through The Athletic. Among the journalists recruited by the Times is Jason Murray, the last Sports editor of The Washington Post, a section dismantled after the reduction of more than a third of the staff in the media owned by Jeff Bezos. The Times assured that these signings aim to "offer fans in Washington unprecedented coverage of the teams and sports they love". The Athletic will expand its coverage of the NFL's Washington Commanders, begin following the MLB's Washington Nationals, and reinforce its tennis, opinion, and investigation teams.

Within days, the then-CEO of the newspaper, Will Lewis, resigned, who was identified as responsible for the dismissal of hundreds of journalists.
