The day of the political consultant was first declared by the Latin American Association of political consultants (ALACOP) in 2022, as a tribute and celebration of the birthday of Joseph Napolitan (1929-2013), considered the father of modern political consulting.
"Joe" Napolitan, as he was known among his close associates, drove the professionalization of the activity, promoting an ethical and democratic culture in political consulting. In his book, How to Win Elections?, he lays the foundation for the structuring and methodology regarding the design of campaign strategies, making the advisor an indispensable piece in any democratic process, as well as in advising during the governance of any modern country.
Napolitano was the founder of the International Association of Political Consultants (IAPC), the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC), and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).
In addition to contemporary political consulting, it is worth remembering that the role of the political consultant emerged in European courts when kings, concerned about maintaining acceptance before their subjects, used trusted people to help them make decisions that would allow them to enjoy popularity with their people.
