According to the prize structure established by Major League Baseball, each of the 20 teams that qualified for the tournament initially receives 300 thousand dollars just for participating in the championship. As teams advance in the tournament, the amounts increase significantly. The teams that reach the quarter-finals (second round) receive an additional 400 thousand dollars. The teams that manage to advance to the semifinals get 500 thousand more dollars, while the teams that reach the grand final secure an additional million dollars. In the event that a team reaches the title match, it could accumulate close to $1.9 million between the different incentives for advancing in the tournament. The champion team also receives a prize of three million dollars, an amount that is distributed among the members of the national team and their federation. According to the established scheme, 50% of the prize is distributed among the players, while the other 50% remains in the hands of the national federation, which generally allocates those resources to the development of baseball in minor categories. An important aspect is that the players do not receive a direct salary for participating in the tournament, but their income depends on the prizes obtained by the team's progress in the competition. The system seeks to incentivize competitiveness in each phase of the World Baseball Classic and, at the same time, generate resources for the growth of baseball in the participating countries.
