SMEs value the President's message, but ask for more support for the sector

The Dominican Confederation of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (CODOPYME) positively valued the message addressed to the country by the President of the Republic, in which he addresses with clarity, responsibility and a sense of opportunity the effects of the international situation derived from the conflict in Iran.

However, he considered it essential that, in this process, the support for the MSME sector continues to be strengthened, through concrete actions that allow mitigating the impact on production, employment and competitiveness.

In that sense, they reiterated the importance of: Facilitating access to financing on preferential terms, promoting energy efficiency mechanisms for small businesses, streamlining public procurement processes, prioritizing the participation of MSMEs, and promoting digitalization and the reduction of operating costs through the simplification of procedures.

They recognized the importance of national leadership expressing itself with transparency, without evasiveness, and with a clear vision of the measures to be implemented to preserve the economic and social stability of the country in times of global uncertainty.

From the MSME sector, they agree with the President that the Dominican Republic faces a significant external shock, especially due to its impact on fuel costs, logistics, and raw materials. These variables directly affect the cost structure of our companies, many of which operate with limited margins and high sensitivity to these types of fluctuations.

They valued as correct the decisions aimed at protecting macroeconomic stability without resorting to disproportionate fiscal expansions, maintaining support programs for the most vulnerable sectors and implementing measures to mitigate the impact on the agricultural sector, especially through the subsidy to fertilizers.

Furthermore, they understand the need to make gradual adjustments to fuel prices as part of responsible fiscal management, in a context where subsidies cannot be sustained indefinitely without compromising public finances.

They also consider that the current context should also be seen as an opportunity to accelerate pending structural transformations, such as the energy transition, business formalization, and the strengthening of the national productive apparatus.

Dominican MSMEs have historically demonstrated their resilience and adaptability. With the right support, they will continue to be a fundamental pillar for social stability, job creation, and the country's economic growth.

CODOPYME reiterated its willingness to work with the Government, in a space of permanent dialogue, to build solutions that allow facing this situation with the least possible impact and lay the foundations for a stronger, more inclusive and sustainable economy.
