Punta Cana.- The Dominican Republic will assume the presidency of the 60th General Assembly of the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT), one of the main spaces for cooperation and dialogue among tax administrations at the international level.
The meeting will be held from May 11 to 15, 2026 in Punta Cana, and will be organized by the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII), bringing together delegations from tax administrations and representatives of international organizations from different continents. The assembly will focus on the "Digital Transformation of Tax Administrations", a key topic for governments in the context of the "digitalization of economies", the strategic use of "data" and the incorporation of "new technologies in fiscal management." The official opening will be attended by Pedro Urrutia Sangiovanni, General Director of the DGII, and Marcio F. The opening conference will be led by Rodrigo Valdés, director of the Fiscal Affairs Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and Juan Toro, deputy director, who will share their perspectives and experiences on digital transformation, exploring the challenges and opportunities facing the region and other administrations globally.
Expert and Conference Agenda
During the assembly, international panelists will present and debate experiences and strategies aimed at strengthening tax administrations in the face of the challenges of the digital economy. Among the topics to be addressed are strategies and tools to improve tax compliance, risk management, selective and massive audits, selection of taxpayers, auditing and traceability of goods. Predictive models of tax behavior will also be analyzed, the development of comprehensive and omnichannel electronic services for taxpayers, as well as the use of digital platforms and artificial intelligence in the processes of attention and fiscalization. The agenda will also include debates on technological infrastructure, data governance and standardization, operational continuity in physical and digital environments, and the ethical aspects and limits in the use of artificial intelligence. International Participation The event will be attended by authorities and experts from the continents of America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania.
