El presidente Díaz-Canel dice que los cubanos «morirían» por defender a Cuba de una invasión de EE.UU.

Washington.- El presidente de Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, afirmó en una entrevista con la cadena estadounidense NBC emitida este domingo que los cubanos «morirían» por defender a la isla de una eventual invasión de Estados Unidos.

«Si eso sucede habrá combates, habrá lucha, nos defenderemos, y si tenemos que morir, moriremos, porque como dice nuestro himno nacional: ‘Morir por la patria es vivir'», declaró al programa ‘Meet The Press’.

«Si llega el momento, no creo que haya justificación alguna para que Estados Unidos lance una agresión militar contra Cuba, ni para que lleve a cabo una operación quirúrgica o el secuestro de un presidente», dijo Díaz-Canel en la entrevista.

NBC emitió este domingo la entrevista completa, la primera del presidente cubano con una cadena estadounidense, aunque el pasado jueves ya publicó un avance de la conversación, grabada en La Habana mediante un traductor, en la que Díaz-Canel descartaba dimitir pese a las presiones de la Administración de Donald Trump.

«Renunciar no forma parte de nuestro vocabulario», declaró el mandatario, quien se mostró molesto por la pregunta de la entrevistadora, Kristen Welker, y le replicó que si podría hacerle la misma pregunta a Trump o si el cuestionamiento era una orden del Departamento de Estado.

Diálogo y presión, la actual relación entre Cuba y EE.UU.

Tras la captura en enero de Nicolás Maduro en Venezuela, Trump impuso un bloqueo energético a Cuba, agravando la crisis energética y social que vive la isla desde hace años.

El líder estadounidense declaró el mes pasado que tiene planes para «una toma amistosa o no» de Cuba y su secretario de Estado, Marco Rubio, dijo que el sistema económico del país cubano está fallido.

No obstante, ambos países anunciaron negociaciones para resolver su conflicto y en marzo Washington permitió que un petrolero llegara a la isla para aliviar la escasez energética.
