Santo Domingo. – The one-year-old baby identified as Ruth Angélica Mota Martínez, found dead inside a backpack in a ravine in the Los Girasoles sector, had died due to cerebral hypoxia caused by cerebral edema, according to the death certificate issued by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif).

According to the preliminary report, the forensic experts determined that the cause of death corresponds to a condition compatible with cerebral asphyxia, so the case was initially classified as a homicide. Forensic authorities specified that this result is part of a preliminary evaluation, as the definitive conclusion will depend on the complementary studies of the autopsy, the results of which will be ready within an estimated period of 45 days.
