Gil faced serious control and effectiveness problems from the start of the game. In just over four innings, he allowed six earned runs, five hits, and gave up three walks, without managing to strike out any batter. Houston's offense barely missed on three attempts out of their 83 pitches, highlighting the right-hander's lack of command. Yankees manager Aaron Boone noted that the pitcher has had difficulty regaining consistency in his mechanics and the effectiveness of his fastball, which has limited his ability to generate missed swings.
