Santo Domingo.- The President of the Senate of the Republic, Ricardo de los Santos, assured the union organizations that the reform to the Labor Code will be approved as it arrives from the Chamber of Deputies, without altering what refers to severance.
The information was offered after a meeting between union representatives and the presidents of both legislative chambers, where the union leader
Gabriel del Río explained that
Ricardo de los Santos will present before the senatorial plenary the project sent by the deputies, with the aim of turning it into law during the current legislature.
Del Río maintained that the intention is to prevent the piece from returning to the
Chamber of Deputies, which would further delay the approval of the labor reform.
Severance continues to be the main point of conflict between workers and employers. On the subject, unionist Pepe Abreu warned that modifying the project would prolong the legislative process, although he assured that the unions also support the permanence of the current Labor Code if consensus is not reached.
From his side, the Minister of Labor, Eddy Olivares, affirmed that there is the necessary consensus between both legislative chambers and the opposition blocs to approve a new labor legal framework that responds to the needs of all sectors.
Likewise, it is planned that the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco, will hold a meeting with Jacobo Ramos to review the report of the commission that studied the labor reform, with a view to presenting the initiative next week before the assembly.
