DGM reports 2,056 undocumented immigrants detained and 1,350 deported

Santo Domingo.– The General Directorate of Migration ) reported that during the immigration interdiction operations carried out this Wednesday, 2,056 foreigners in an irregular migratory condition were detained in different parts of the country and the border area. According to the official report, the province of Elías Piña registered the highest number of detainees, with 230 people arrested during the immigration control actions. The DGM explained that of the arrests made, 1,872 corresponded to operations carried out directly by immigration agents, while another 184 people were handed over by State security agencies. Among those institutions are the Dominican Republic Army, which handed over 113 people, and the National Police, which referred another 71.

The entity also indicated that 1,350 people were deported to Haiti through different border points enabled for that purpose. According to official statistics, 479 deportations were carried out by Elías Piña, 364 by Dajabón, 247 by Jimaní and 15 by Pedernales.

The operations also left 170 detainees in communities in La Vega, including Pedregal, La Colonia, La Joya, Palo Blanco, Sabaneta and El Mirador. In Santo Domingo and the National District, 130 arrests were reported in sectors such as Los Frailes, Manoguayabo, Cristo Rey, Arroyo Hondo, Gualey, and Simón Bolívar.
