Santo Domingo.- Given the effects of Tropical Storm Melissa, the Government of President Luis Abinader, through the Ministry of Education (MINERD), announced the suspension of classes throughout the national territory on Friday, October 24th.
The decision was made in coordination with the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and other civil protection agencies, as a preventive measure to safeguard the integrity of students, teachers, and administrative staff, in the face of the rains and strong winds that are being recorded in several provinces of the country.
In an official statement, the MINERD urged the educational community to stay informed through the official channels of the Ministry and to follow the recommendations of the authorities.

Tropical Storm Melissa has caused heavy rainfall and wind gusts in different areas of the national territory, with forecasts that it will continue to affect the country during the next few hours."The government's priority is to protect life and ensure the safety of all members of the educational community. The resumption of teaching will be reported in a timely manner, according to the evolution of the weather conditions," the statement indicated.
