Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic (Mirex) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain in order to promote the use of the Spanish language in the diplomatic field and in international organizations, Mirex indicated this Sunday.
The agreement establishes the basis for collaborations that "contribute to the Spanish language having a greater presence and recognition in international organizations, the legal sector and international arbitration," stated the Dominican ministry in a statement.
The agreement was signed by the Dominican Deputy Minister of Multilateral Foreign Policy, Rubén Silié, representing Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, and the Secretary of State for Ibero-America and the Caribbean and Spanish in the World of the Government of Spain, Susana Sumelzo Jordán.
The parties pledged to promote the use of Spanish in international organizations, demand the translation of documents into this language, and highlight the Day of the Spanish Language. You can also read: In addition, the agreement seeks to strengthen the Friends of Spanish Groups, promote this language as a selection criterion for staff working in multilateral organizations, and promote the language in diplomatic academies, among other initiatives. In the presentation of the agreed memorandum, the vice ministers of Mirex, Francisco Caraballo, Hugo Rivera, Opinio Díaz, and Celínés Toribio, were present; as well as the ambassador of Spain in the Dominican Republic, Lorea Arribalzaga.
