Santo Domingo. – The communicator Jhoel López expressed this Sunday his disagreement with the treatment that, in his opinion, some of those accused in the alleged corruption case involving the National Health Insurance (SeNaSa) could receive, insisting that the law must be applied with the same criteria for all citizens.
The statements were offered while López participated in a peaceful demonstration held on the night of this Sunday around the Palace of Justice of Ciudad Nueva, where a judge from the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services must hear the request for a coercive measure against those accused of the alleged millionaire embezzlement from the state health institution. Hundreds of people came to the place to demand that the process be carried out without privileges.
The television presenter also referred to Dr. Santiago Hazim, the main defendant in the case and former director of SeNaSa until last August, when he was dismissed after multiple complaints. During the preliminary hearings, Hazim's defense has reported that he suffers from multiple sclerosis, which is why he requests that he be allowed to leave the country to receive medical treatment.
López questioned that approach and pointed out that there are numerous people deprived of their liberty with similar or more complex health conditions who are facing their judicial processes under restrictive measures. He affirmed that any special consideration should be applied uniformly and not based on the economic or media weight of the case.
Until 9:00 p.m., the time this information was published, the judge had not yet entered the courtroom, while the parties involved and dozens of protesters remained waiting for the formal start of the knowledge of the coercion measure.
The protests took place in an orderly manner, while the expectation remains for the decision that the judge must make once the hearing begins.
