Three months of pre-trial detention imposed on woman accused of killing her 13-year-old sister

Santo Domingo.- The Permanent Attention Services Office of San Francisco de Macorís imposed three months of preventive prison to a woman accused of killing her 13-year-old sister, and for causing serious injuries to a man on January 28, in the sector Los Solares de Duarte Arriba, of said city. The accused Ankelsy Valerio de Jesús killed the teenager Anelsy Ceballos de Jesús and caused serious injuries to Enmanuel Núñez Batista, the Public Ministry indicated this Monday in a statement.

Based on preliminary investigations, the events occurred amidst a family confrontation that "escalated to the use of a firearm". The Public Ministry detailed that the accused, after having the fight with the victims, returned to the scene of the conflict carrying a pistol with which she fired multiple shots The teenager died of hemorrhagic shock due to a gunshot wound, while Núñez Batista remains under specialized medical care after receiving bullet impacts. In the scene, five 9 mm caliber shell casings were seized, as well as bladed weapons previously used in the altercation. Furthermore, the 9 mm caliber firearm used by the defendant was voluntarily handed over to the authorities by a relative of the accused. The defendant was arrested on January 29, 2026, in compliance with a court order. The Public Ministry classified the events as murder, attempted murder, and illegal carrying and possession of a firearm. By decision of the judges, Valerio de Jesús will serve preventive detention at the Juana Núñez Freedom Deprivation Center, in Salcedo.
