Santo Domingo. – The Office for the Reordering of Transportation (OPRET) reported that, starting next July 31, the Santo Domingo Metro and Cable Car Line 1 (from Gualey to Charles de Gaulle) will extend their operating hours from Monday to Friday, starting service at 5:30 in the morning and ending at 10:30 at night. On Saturdays, the schedule will be from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
This measure is part of the "RD se Mueve" plan, an initiative of the Dominican Government aimed at improving urban mobility and offering greater facilities to users who need to travel earlier to their workplaces, universities or other activities. The implementation of this schedule will be monitored and evaluated in order to optimize it based on demand. You may be interested in: It's a chaos! Metro users denounce constant collapse
In a press release, OPRET highlighted that this new schedule is possible thanks to the commitment of a team of men and women who, while the city sleeps, work to ensure a safe and efficient service. From 3:00 in the morning, operators, ticket collectors, intervention personnel, drivers and dispatchers mobilize from their homes in buses provided by the entity to start their work on time.In parallel, the technical teams carry out maintenance work overnight on tracks, stations, and trains, ensuring that the system is in optimal condition to begin operations each day.
Furthermore, the institution reiterated that, between the end of July and the beginning of August, six-car trains will be incorporated on both Line 1 and Line 2 of the Santo Domingo Metro, in response to the growing demand for the service. OPRET reaffirmed its commitment to prioritize maintenance, offer a quality service and respond to the mobility needs of citizens, contributing to the development of a modern, safe and efficient public transport.
