“Ray didn't deserve to die like that”: Family members demand justice for the murder of a young taxi driver in Guaricano

Santo Domingo. – Amid tears and a mixture of pain and helplessness, family and friends of Luis Rafael Rosario Martich, known as Ray, demand justice after the confirmation of his tragic murder. The 20-year-old, reported missing since last Sunday, June 29, was found dead in the El Higüero community, in North Santo Domingo, with a gunshot wound to the head. For their loved ones, this is not just an irreparable loss, but an open wound that demands answers.

“Ray was a serious, family-oriented, hardworking boy. He didn't go out without telling his mom. How are they going to take his life for a bicycle or for nothing? They didn't even steal his car!”, expressed a cousin of the victim through sobs, who claims that what happened was a planned betrayal.

The family's pain is not hidden. "I have no words to describe what we feel. Ray was a good kid, who wouldn't hurt a fly. All we ask for is justice," cried his uncle Guarino Rosario, while holding the photograph of the murdered young man. According to the testimonies, the crime would have been motivated by envy or the need for transportation, but without any justification for such a brutal death. "That child was innocent. Maybe with little experience, but he was only dedicated to working. There was no reason to kill him that way. It was a massacre," lamented another family member. Ray left his house in the Guaricanos sector at 9:00 in the morning to provide a taxi service. He never returned. His body was found this Tuesday next to his vehicle, a black Kia Optima, year 2019, which was recovered by the authorities at the same place. According to the National Police, Diego Rivera Jiménez, 25 years old, has already been arrested, and Jeffrey Vázquez Isla, alleged accomplice of the crime, is being actively sought. The National Police spokesman, Diego Pesqueira, confirmed that the detainee will be brought to justice in the coming hours, while urging Jeffrey Vázquez to surrender through the means he deems appropriate. "We deeply regret the death of this young man. Investigations continue and we will not rest until the matter is fully clarified," he indicated. Meanwhile, in the heart of Guaricanos, only one demand is heard unanimously: "Justice for Ray. May his death not go unpunished."
