Trump announces a deal with South Korea to lower tariffs from 25% to 15%

Washington.- The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Wednesday that he has reached an agreement with South Korea to reduce tariffs on imports from that country from 25% to 15%.

"We have agreed on a 15% tariff for South Korea. The United States will not pay any tariffs", stated the Republican president through his Truth Social platform.

According to the president, the agreement also stipulates that the Asian country will invest 350 billion dollars in the United States and that it will acquire 100 billion dollars in liquefied natural gas and other American energy products. In addition, South Korea will be "completely open" to trade with the United States, facilitating the purchase of American automobiles and agricultural products. The president did not detail any concessions from the United States. Trump will formalize this pact with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung during a meeting of both leaders at the White House within the next two weeks, the American added. This Friday will be the deadline that Trump set to unilaterally impose tariffs on his trading partners if a prior agreement has not been reached. South Korea is the United States' main Asian trading partner along with Japan. With the latter country, Trump also recently agreed to a reduction in tariffs from 25% to 15%. Last Sunday, he also announced an agreement with Brussels whereby the United States will impose 15% tariffs on most products from the European Union (EU).
