The action and fantasy film 'How to Train Your Dragon' ('How to train your dragon') topped the US box office on its premiere this weekend with a gross of 83 million dollars, and snatched from 'Lilo & Stitch' the reign it held since the end of May.
Universal's new live-action version, based on the 2010 animated film of the same name, also premiered in Spain on the 13th and in Latin America on the 15th, bringing in 197.8 million dollars worldwide.
'How to Train Your Dragon' ('How to train your dragon') left 'Lilo & Stitch' in second place, and quite distanced, which remained in first position for three weeks, although the latter barely managed to raise 15.5 million dollars, according to the specialized website Box Office Mojo.
However, the production of Disney boasts successful figures, with the 366 million dollars it has accumulated locally and 858 worldwide.
The other big release of the weekend, the romantic comedy 'Materialists' ('Materialistas'), entered directly into third place with a gross of 12 million dollars at the United States box office.
The film, directed by Céline Song, promises to be a hit thanks to its well-known protagonists; Dakota Johnson, in the role of a matchmaker who gets involved in a love triangle with a wealthy suitor (Pedro Pascal) and her ex (Cris Evans).
In fourth place, 'Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning' ('Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One') holds on with $10.3 million collected this weekend, for a total of $506 million worldwide to date.
The spin-off of 'John Wick', 'Ballerina', starring the Spanish-Cuban Ana de Armas as a killer ballerina, completes the top five with a collection of 9.4 million dollars in its second weekend in theaters.
So far, the film has grossed $91.5 million worldwide.
