Smartfilms launches "Dominican Vibes" category in DR for cinema with cell phones

Within the framework of the Movie Route, the national audiovisual training tour, the Smartfilms RD festival announced its first official category in the Dominican Republic: “Dominicana Vibra”, an initiative that seeks to exalt the best of the country through mobile cinema. The renowned actors and producers Evelyna Rodríguez and Danilo Reynoso made the official announcement, inviting the entire population to tell creative stories recorded from a cell phone, with total freedom of genre, characters and focus, always highlighting the culture, the nature and the human value of the Dominican Republic.

What is the "Dominicana Vibra" category about?

“Dominicana Vibra” has as its creative challenge to narrate a free story, with its own style, but focused on showing the most authentic of the country. The themes can be approached from three main axes:

  • Nature: beaches, rivers, mountains, waterfalls and nature reserves.
  • Culture: gastronomy, traditions, music, rhythms, crafts and historical heritage.
  • Human: life stories, local characters, artists, musicians, athletes or any individual who represents the Dominican soul.

Requirements to participate

The call is open to the public, regardless of age, nationality, or prior experience. Students, amateurs, professionals, people with disabilities, children (with parental authorization), and senior citizens can participate. The requirements are as follows:
  • Create a short film of a maximum of 5 minutes, filmed in horizontal format.
  • Include a behind-the-scenes of 1 minute.
  • Reside in the Dominican Republic, regardless of nationality.
  • Download the Cibao mobile application.
  • Integrate a brand presence or product placement with the new Cibao visual identity, of at least 3 seconds. This element must feel organic within the narrative.

Dates and awards

The inscriptions will be available from July 28 to August 16. The first 10 participants to register will receive exclusive surprises. Registration is completely free. The contest winner will receive a cash prize of RD$300,000.00, and the best short films will be screened on the big screen during the closing gala of the festival.
