Washington,.- The U.S. President, Donald Trump, defined himself this Tuesday as "Mr. Tariff" when celebrating the new record levels in Wall Street and expressed his wish that the Supreme Court does not annul the bulk of the global tariffs imposed by his Administration.
"U.S. Markets just hit another all-time high, all of them. Thank you, Don Tariff! (referring to himself) Let us pray that the Supreme Court of the United States allows our country to continue its unprecedented march toward unparalleled greatness!", Trump shared on his Truth Social network.
Shortly thereafter, the White House published on social media an image created with artificial intelligence in which the Republican is depicted as the iconic character of the cleaning brand Don Limpio (Mr. Clean in English).Trump is depicted with his arms crossed and wearing a white t-shirt and glowing skin, next to the caption "Don Arancel", and the slogan "There's no trade like Don Arancel's".
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hold a "day of opinion" on Friday, a session to make public certain decisions that could be the first opportunity for it to issue a ruling on a large part of the tariffs imposed by the president since his return to power a year ago. The Court never announces such decisions in advance, but the case of the levies may be among them. Since his return to the White House in January 2025, the U.S. president has intensified his protectionist trade policy and imposed tariffs on dozens of trade allies, ranging from a base of 10% to 50% in the case of Brazil and India, as retaliation for the prosecution of former President Jair Bolsonaro and the purchase of Russian crude oil, respectively. Last November, the Supreme Court agreed to hear arguments about whether or not Trump had the legal authority to approve most of the tariffs implemented. A possible defeat of the Trump administration would mean the cancellation of a large part of the tariffs it has imposed and would force the reimbursement of those funds, tens of billions of dollars to the taxed companies, in turn calling into question the US budgetary sustainability. Instead, a victory would reinforce the presidential power of the New York magnate and could encourage the use of that emergency law to pressure even more other business partners.
