The Kremlin acknowledges Ukrainian attack on Crimean bridge but denies damage to its foundations

Moscow, June 4 (EFE).- The Kremlin confirmed today the attack perpetrated by Ukraine on Tuesday against the Crimean bridge, but denied that it caused damage to the foundations of the infrastructure that connects the annexed peninsula with mainland Russia. "Indeed, there was an explosion, but nothing was damaged. The bridge is functioning," said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov at his daily press briefing. Peskov added that Kyiv "continues its attempts to attack civilian infrastructure and the Russian side is taking the appropriate precautions."

Russian authorities closed the Crimean bridge twice on Monday after the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) claimed to have damaged its foundations in a special operation.

However, traffic circulation resumed a few hours after each closure.

Yesterday, the SBU claimed to have successfully attacked one of the bridge's foundations, a message accompanied by a video of an explosion.

According to the agency, at 04:44 local time (01:44 GMT) on Tuesday, a 1,100-kilogram explosive charge was detonated underwater next to one of the bridge's pillars.

This was the third Ukrainian attack since the beginning of the war against this Crimean bridge, whose construction was ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin after Russia's annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in 2014.
