City Council approves three days of municipal mourning for the death of Fello Suberví

Santo Domingo, DN – The Council of Councilors of the National District approved this Wednesday the declaration of municipal mourning for three days due to the death of former mayor Rafael Antonio “Fello” Suberví Bonilla.

During an extraordinary session, the councilors unanimously voted for the approval of this ordinance, after the sad passing of Mr. Fello was known on Tuesday morning.

Through ordinance 10-2025, the 16th, 17th, and 18th of the current month were declared municipal days of mourning. This provision also includes the placement of the national flag and the city flag at half-mast on the municipal buildings of Santo Domingo.

Councilors Pay Tribute to Fello's Legacy

The Vice President of the Council, Junior Castillo Mena, praised the great career of Mr. Fello Suberví, highlighting that in each of his public functions he performed with transparency and integrity, demonstrating his great managerial capacity. "Among all the mayors that the National District has had, he will be remembered as one of the best," he pointed out. On his part, the councilman of the Fuerza del Pueblo in the first constituency, Rafael Gutiérrez, recalled the transcendent role that Fello played in the pedestrianization of El Conde street, as well as in the creation of the Municipal Police. Councilman Danilo Sánchez described the late political leader as an icon for seeking solutions to internal conflicts within the party. "Doctor Rafael Suberví Bonilla humanized the profession of politics," he added.

DNA to hold funeral honors this Thursday

The National District City Council will hold funeral honors for former mayor Rafael Antonio “Fello” Suberví Bonilla this Thursday at the Municipal Palace. Starting at 10:00 a.m. this Thursday, the 17th, the city hall headquarters will hold a heartfelt tribute in the presence of the renowned political leader. For such purposes, the protocol includes a funeral march led by the Fire Department, the interpretation of the national and city anthems, honor guards, words from family members and municipal authorities, as well as the delivery of the municipal flag to the family.
