The mayor of the municipality of Dajabón, Santiago Riverón, responded to the statements made by the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, reaffirming his decision to continue with the operations to detain Haitians in an irregular migratory situation.
“Faride is right, but while she proves to me that I have no authority, I will continue doing my job. For her to prove that, she has to go to trial, submit to me, while that happens we will continue doing our job,” Riverón expressed.
The mayor's statements come after the five-day deadline granted to undocumented foreigners to leave the municipality has expired.
After this period, Riverón led a new round of searching for and detaining Haitians, operations that were supported by the General Directorate of Migration and the municipal police.
