Santo Domingo.— A
two-run single by Ismael Munguía, with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh inning, defined the victory of the
Estrellas Orientales 4-2 over the Tigres del Licey, in the first game of the doubleheader played this Tuesday at the
Tetelo Vargas Stadium, corresponding to the
2025-2026 LIDOM championship.

With the triumph, the Estrellas improved their record to
19-25 and climbed to
fourth place, tied with the
Leones del Escogido, in a close fight for the postseason classification.
Decision of the encounter
Reliever
Gregory Santos (1-0) was credited with the victory, while
Enyel de los Santos (0-1) took the loss.
Patrick Weigel earned his
fourth save, pitching
one and a third perfect innings, with
four strikeouts.
Game Development
Licey took the lead in the top of the
third inning, when
Francisco Mejía hit a two-run double with two outs, driving in
Luis Barrera and
Gustavo Núñez.
The Stars reacted in the closing of that same inning, also with two outs.
Rodolfo Castro hit a
solo home run to left field against
Ofreidy Gómez. Immediately afterwards,
Ismael Munguía singled and scored from first thanks to a
triple by Jorge Mateo to center field, in a play in which the outfielder could not catch the ball at ground level.
In the fifth inning, Licey loaded the bases, but
Jefry Yan dominated
Mel Rojas with a line drive to left field to extinguish the threat.
The Decisive Hit
The eastern offensive struck again in the
seventh inning against Enyel de los Santos. After a strikeout of
Francisco Peña,
Raimel Tapia,
Robinson Canó and
Dairon Blanco connected consecutive singles to load the bases.
Although De los Santos struck out Rodolfo Castro for the second out,
Ismael Munguía responded with a
single to right field that drove in Tapia and Cano, setting the final score at
4-2.

The triumph allowed the Estrellas to take advantage of the Leones del Escogido's defeat against the Águilas Cibaeñas and maintain firm aspirations of advancing to the next phase of the tournament.
