PHOENIX. – Dominicans Ketel Marte and Geraldo Perdomo led the offense for the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 6-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants, a result with which they completed the sweep in the three-game series.
Mars punished again with the bat by connecting a two-run home run in the third inning, his second home run in consecutive nights. The infielder finished a brilliant day by scoring three times, reaching base four times and staying just a triple away from completing the cycle.
The three-time All-Star is going through one of his best offensive moments of the season, after having decided Tuesday's game with a three-run home run in the ninth inning.
Perdomo also had a decisive performance by driving in three runs, including a two-run double in the fifth inning that extended Arizona's lead to 6-3.
Starting pitcher Merrill Kelly worked six innings of three runs and eight hits to earn the win and add his third consecutive quality start. The right-hander was coming off pitching the first complete game of his career last week against Colorado.
Arizona is going through a great moment and has won four games in a row and five of their last six matches. Paul Sewald pitched the ninth inning to get his eleventh save of the season.
San Francisco took an early lead thanks to a home run by Casey Schmitt in the first inning, but couldn't contain the Diamondbacks' offense.
The defeated pitcher was Tyler Mahle, who allowed six runs and eight hits in five innings of work. The Giants have lost six of their last eight games and continue to move away from the fight in the standings.
