Tatis's homer brings Padres closer to postseason

Chicago. – The San Diego Padres moved to within one win of securing their playoff berth after defeating the White Sox 3-2 this Sunday at Rate Field, in a duel marked by the power of Dominican Fernando Tatis Jr. and the solidity of their pitching.

Tatis hit his 23rd home run of the season and the 150th of his career in Major League Baseball, a hit that gave a 3-0 lead in the third inning and ended up being decisive in the final result. On the mound, right-hander Michael King shined with his best start since returning from the injured list in early September. King worked 5 scoreless innings, with four strikeouts, four walks, and four hits allowed. Cuban Adrián Morejón entered at a key moment in the sixth inning to extinguish the home threat and confirm his role as a fundamental piece in the bullpen.
With this victory, San Diego is on the verge of October: it can seal its classification with two more victories, or even with a victory combined with a defeat of Cincinnati. "It was an important game for us, we felt it as one more step towards what we want to achieve," said King, satisfied with his progress after overcoming his previous eventful outing against the Mets. The Padres, who in recent days also enjoyed a grand slam by Manny Machado and timely performances by Ryan O’Hearn, seem to be heating up at the right moment of the campaign, refining both their offense and their rotation in the face of postseason challenges. Now, San Diego is focused on completing the task and confirming its return to the playoffs, with the extra motivation of arriving with its star core in good shape and with a bullpen strengthened by Morejón's consistency.
