Sports writing (EFE).- Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar, recent winner of the Tour de France, will not participate in La Vuelta a España 2025, from August 23 to September 14, as reported this Tuesday by his team, UAE Team Emirates.
Despite the absence of the 26-year-old cyclist, eight riders will compete for the UAE Team Emirates, led by the Portuguese João Almeida, and completed by the Dane Mikkel Bjerg, the Austrian Felix Großschartner, the Slovenian Domen Novak, the Portuguese Ivo Oliveira, the Spaniard Marc Soler and the Australian Jay Vine. As Almeida's co-leader will be the Spaniard Juan Ayuso, who will return to La Vuelta with a podium already in his record, achieved in 2022. "La Vuelta is a very special race for me, my home race. I have been training well, I feel good and I am 100% focused on having a good race for the team. It is always an honor to race at home and I will give it my all to make it worthwhile, whether it's helping the team or fighting for my own result. Spain always brings out the best in me," Ayuso pointed out.

The United Arab Emirates team confirmed the team for the big event taking place in Spain, which does not include the four-time champion of the French race: "After such a demanding Tour, we decided that the best thing was to take a break," assured the Slovenian. "Of course, the Vuelta is a race I would love to return to. I have fantastic memories of 2019, but now my body is asking me to rest," declared Pogacar, recalling that edition of the Spanish round, in which he finished third. The Slovenian star will take a break before returning to competition in North America and will lead his team in the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec and the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal, both in Canada, in September.
