Santiago.- A 23-year-old man was reported missing and presumed drowned this afternoon Friday in the waters of the Ulises Francisco Espaillat irrigation canal, in the municipal district of Santiago Oeste, a fact that has generated consternation among residents of the community.
The missing person, of Haitian nationality, has been identified as Edson Jhon, who, according to preliminary information, was sharing with three other colleagues after finishing his workday. The young people decided to go to the canal to bathe when the incident occurred. According to the account provided by his companions, the incident occurred after 6:00 in the evening. The three companions tried to rescue the young man when they realized he was being dragged by the current, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
