Santo Domingo. — President Luis Abinader led an extraordinary session of the Economic and Social Council (CES) this Thursday, where he raised the need for a national response to the effects of the Haitian crisis on the Dominican Republic.
Accompanied by former presidents Leonel Fernández, Hipólito Mejía and Danilo Medina, as well as representatives of the three branches of government and various social sectors, Abinader warned about the risks posed by the institutional collapse of Haiti, especially in terms of migration, security, and trade.“La frontera no es donde termina la República Dominicana. Es donde comienza”, afirmó el mandatario, al defender el desarrollo de las comunidades fronterizas como estrategia de estabilidad y control territorial.
Over the next few days, the CES will debate concrete proposals in search of consensus to address the crisis from a national and sustainable approach.
