Abinader creates commission for transformation of the education system

Santo Domingo.– President Luis Abinader issued Decree 309-26 creating the Executive Commission for Educational Transformation, with the aim of designing the foundations of an Integral National Education System focused on innovation, science, and technology.

The provision establishes that the commission will work on the elaboration of a preliminary draft law on comprehensive education aimed at modernizing the Dominican education system and responding to future challenges. According to the decree, the commission will be made up of the heads of the ministries of Education, Higher Education and Public Administration, as well as the direction of the National Institute for Technical Professional Training (INFOTEP).

In addition, it will have an Advisory Committee composed of experts in different educational areas, in charge of promoting dialogue and consensus on the necessary reforms in the education and science, technology and innovation system. The initiative also contemplates the realization of a National Consultation for the Future of Dominican Education, which will include regional meetings, institutional consultations, and open spaces for citizen participation and participation from national and international specialists. Among the main objectives are strengthening educational quality, improving the articulation between education and the labor market, promoting educational research, and consolidating the national system of science, technology, and innovation.

The decree establishes that the commission must submit the final recommendations and the preliminary draft law to the Executive Branch within a maximum period of six months. With this measure, Decree 580-24 is also repealed, which is related to the special commission created to coordinate the merger process between the Ministries of Education and Higher Education.
