Santo Domingo. – President Luis Abinader made a supervisory visit on Tuesday night to the underground tunnel under construction under the Plaza de la Bandera, located at the intersection of Gregorio Luperón and 27 de Febrero avenues, with the aim of further improving and developing the road system.
This work is part of a comprehensive plan of road solutions for Greater Santo Domingo, which will allow a continuous flow in the north-south direction along Luperón Avenue, eliminating one of the points of greatest vehicular congestion in the capital.
While pronouncing some words, the Head of State informed that the Government continues to monitor and make progress on important road infrastructure works, including the inauguration scheduled for this Friday of the Ecológica Dr. José Francisco Peña Gómez avenue, which will become the second entrance from the east towards Santo Domingo, with the aim of improving vehicular flow towards the capital.

He indicated that these projects will allow for greater traffic flow and that, according to the schedule, these road solutions are expected to be fully operational in the second quarter of next year. Likewise, Abinader referred to the progress of other mass transit systems, such as the Santo Domingo cable car, whose extension to Pintura is expected by the end of next year and to the Botanical Garden by the end of 2027. He also reported that the Santiago monorail is in an advanced phase. The tunnel, with an approximate length of 1.02 kilometers and two lanes in each direction, represents a significant advance in urban mobility, benefiting hundreds of thousands of drivers who travel daily through this critical area. During the supervisory visit, carried out at 9:30 at night, the president received explanations from the Minister of Public Works, Eduardo Estrella, engineers and those in charge of the work. The construction of the tunnel is linked to the overpass previously inaugurated on Prolongación 27 de Febrero with Isabel Aguiar, thus completing an integral road solution. With this oversight, the Government reaffirms its commitment to the development of modern infrastructure that drives progress and connectivity in the country, with a view to its delivery over the course of next year.
