Al menos ocho muertos y un niño herido tras un terremoto de magnitud 5,8 en Afganistán

Kabul.- Al menos ocho personas han muerto, un niño ha resultado herido y una persona más sigue desaparecida tras el terremoto de magnitud 5,8 que sacudió este viernes el noreste de Afganistán, y que se dejó sentir en Kabul y en varias provincias del norte y este del país.

El sismo se produjo alrededor de las 20:40 hora local (16:10 GMT) a una profundidad de 186 kilómetros, con epicentro en el distrito de Jurm de la provincia de Badajshán, una región montañosa al noreste de Afganistán, según informó el Servicio Geológico de Estados Unidos (USGS).

«En la zona de Gosfandari, que forma parte del centro de la provincia de Kabul, según información preliminar un niño ha resultado herido y ocho personas han muerto», confirmó la Autoridad Nacional de Gestión de Desastres de Afganistán en un comunicado.

El documento añadió que en Khak-e-Jabbar, uno de los distritos de la provincia de Kabul, «algunas casas y muros han resultado dañados, pero no se han reportado víctimas».

Servicios de emergencia en alerta

Por su parte, el Ministerio de Salud del Gobierno talibán informó de que ha puesto a las instalaciones médicas en alerta máxima, instruyendo a los hospitales centrales de Kabul y a los departamentos de salud provinciales que garanticen una preparación total en caso de que haya víctimas.

Afganistán se encuentra en una zona de alta actividad sísmica debido a su ubicación geográfica en la intersección de varias placas tectónicas.

En los últimos años, el país ha sufrido terremotos devastadores que han causado miles de muertos y destruido decenas de miles de hogares, especialmente en las zonas rurales donde las construcciones son más precarias.
