The proposed modification to Law 87-01 created the Dominican Social Security System (SDSS), contemplates including people who work for digital service platforms such as Uber Eats, Pedidos Ya, among others, in the benefits of the system through the complementary plans they offer.
The proposal, which is still under discussion with all sectors, seeks to enable these types of workers to access a lifetime survivor's or disability pension, due to the high risk their work entails, especially those who provide delivery services.
"Nowadays those people have no coverage, we want those people to have a minimum coverage based on the minimum disability and survival salary, and with that that person will already have health insurance, through SENASA and disability and survival insurance, that is, that person will be covered by social security and will be able to save whatever they want, voluntarily," explained the Superintendent of Pensions, Francisco Torres in a meeting with the economic press to socialize these discussions.
He also indicated that those people would not pay a fixed fee, because their income is variable, and that it would be voluntary.
"Because by having the coverage, that person can tomorrow, even if they become disabled, totally, they could have a fixed income, without retirement age, from today until the day they die, just by obtaining the current complementary account," the official pointed out.
The fees that these people would pay would be variable in amount and frequency, and they would receive pensions based on what they have accumulated.
