An Israeli soldier dies in southern Lebanon, the first since the truce began

Jerusalem.- The Israeli Army announced this Saturday the death in southern Lebanon of one of its soldiers despite the truce, which increases to fourteen the number of uniformed personnel who have died in the neighboring country since the beginning of the offensive. According to a military statement, the soldier, identified as reserve sergeant Barak Kalfon, died in combat in an incident in which three other soldiers were injured, two of them with moderate injuries. According to a military source told EFE, the incident occurred on Friday, when reserve troops of the 7056 battalion were conducting searches for weapons in a building in the town of Jibin, in the western sector of the south of the neighboring country. During the inspection of the property, which was later identified as a structure with hidden explosives, an explosive device detonated, causing the death of the non-commissioned officer and injuries to the other three soldiers.

The wounded soldiers were evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment and their families have already been notified, added this source linked to the Army. The Israeli army reported this Saturday that it had carried out new bombings in southern Lebanon, despite the current ceasefire, claiming it acted in "legitimate defense" against an alleged Hezbollah cell detected near its troops deployed in the area. The Israeli Army maintained that these actions do not contravene the ceasefire, framing them as self-defense measures authorized by the political command. The attacks occurred after yesterday, US President Donald Trump, stated that Washington has forbidden Israel from bombing Lebanon as part of the ceasefire.
