Santo Domingo. – The General Directorate of Medicines, Food and Sanitary Products (DIGEMAPS) clarified this Tuesday that the alert about the falsification of the emergency contraceptive Evital (Levonorgestrel) corresponds to the month of October 2024, and not to a current situation, as has been interpreted after a recent publication by Proconsumidor on its social networks.
In a statement, DIGEMAPS explained that the dissemination of the message by Proconsumidor has been replicated by various media outlets, which has generated confusion among citizens by being interpreted as a new health alert.
The regulatory entity reminded that all official alerts about medications and human consumption products are duly notified by the institution through the corresponding channels and at the opportune moment.

DIGEMAPS detailed that the product's falsification was detected during health surveillance operations carried out in 2024. On that occasion, Lot 161026 of the contraceptive Evital, manufactured by Ethical Pharmaceutical, SRL, with an expiration date of October 2026, was identified as the compromised lot. The authorities proceeded to withdraw said lot from the market and implement the relevant health controls to guarantee the safety of consumers. The institution reiterated its commitment to the quality and safety of pharmaceutical products in the country, ensuring that it works permanently to comply with current health regulations. Likewise, he urged the population to acquire medications only in duly authorized establishments and recommended that professionals and health centers report any suspicion of adverse drug reactions through the telephone numbers 809-541-3121, extensions 6681 and 6682.
