Rimini, Italy. – The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and SMEs (MICM), as part of the strategy to boost a competitive and sustainable agribusiness, was in Italy promoting the Dominican Republic as a strategic ally for global agri-food trade at the Macfrut 2026 international fair, which took place from April 21 to 23 in this Italian city.
With the Dominican Pavilion, which for the first time had more than 500 meters of extension, the country managed to attract more investments, technification and innovation for the sector, promoted it as a source of employment, engine of growth, guarantee of food security and vehicle of progress for the rural communities of the country.
The Vice Minister of Promotion of the Agroindustry, Anibelca Mena, representing the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, Yayo Sanz Lovatón, highlighted Macfrut 2026 as a space with great growth opportunities for our agroindustry during the inauguration of the Dominican Pavilion.
The Dominican delegation was coordinated by the MICM and the Ministry of Agriculture, along with the Dominican Association of Exporters (ADOEXPO), Banco Agrícola, Universidad ISA, and the Dominican Agribusiness Board (JAD).

It also served as a center for intelligence and technological transfer for the national agro-industry.
Dominican companies exhibited more than 1,538.59 kilograms of fresh products. The emphasis was placed on the positioning of mangoes and avocados, although the Dominican Pavilion was also a showcase for other Creole products such as sweet potato, dry coconut, fresh coconut, banana, pineapple, rum, seasonings, ketchup, coffee, organic banana, sour orange, sapote, garlic paste, mango pulp, BBQ sauce and mixed pulps.
"Each of these products meets the highest standards of quality, safety, traceability, and sustainability, consolidating the Dominican Republic as a reliable partner in global agri-food trade," underscored Vice Minister Mena.
The country's official participation in this 43rd edition of the event is based on the strategic alliance that, in January 2026, was agreed upon by Minister Sanz Lovatón, Macfrut, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The inaugural act of the Dominican stand was headed by His Excellency, the ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the Italian Republic, Rafael Lantigua Ciriaco; Ambassador Ada Hernández, permanent representative to FAO; the president of the Dominican Agribusiness Board, Osmar Benítez; and the sub-administrator of the Agricultural Bank, Eddy Montás, along with prominent national and international authorities.
Also participating were the president of Macfrut, Patrizio Neri, and the rector of ISA University, Edwin Reyes.
During the day, the Dominican pavilion received the visit of Giorgio Silli, Secretary General of the Italian-Latin American International Organization (IILA), as well as the Minister of Agriculture of Italy, Francesco Lollobrigida, who highlighted the importance of strengthening trade ties and technical cooperation between both countries.
