Santo Domingo.-The leader of the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party and former mayor of Villa Tapia, José Ernesto Abud, rejected the approval by the Senate of the Republic of the bill that seeks to eliminate criminal sanctions for officials who fail to execute the budget of the municipalities. Abud maintained that the initiative, presented by Senator Aneudy Ortiz, sends a negative message, as it seeks that the violation of the distribution and destination of the funds established in the legal framework is not punished with criminal sanctions, but only administrative ones. He indicated that it is regrettable that attempts are made to avoid severe sanctions against those who violate the law, which represents a setback for institutionalism and transparency in the management of city councils.

He also stated that in the Dominican Republic today, more than ever, greater controls should be imposed in public administration, with the aim of preventing acts of corruption and not rewarding those who violate constitutional mandates in their functions. In that sense, he called on the deputies not to approve said bill, which in his opinion, far from generating benefits, creates a negative precedent.
