The Valverde province has been under a green alert since this Sunday, after the authorities reported a significant increase in the level of the Monción dam, as a result of the rains recorded in recent days.
The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported that the preventive measure covers the section between the dam's counter-embankment and the confluence of the Yaque del Norte River, due to the risk of sudden rises in rivers, streams, and ravines, as well as possible flooding in vulnerable areas.
According to the technical reports from the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (Indrhi) and the Dam and Reservoir Operation Committee (Copre), the reservoir has reached its maximum capacity, which has forced an increase in electricity generation and, consequently, the volume of water released.
Faced with this situation, the authorities ordered the temporary prohibition of the use of spas and recreational activities in the Mao River, specifically in the area under the influence of the Monción dam.

Likewise, the COE urged the population to avoid crossing bodies of water with high flow, heed the guidance of rescue organizations, and stay informed through official channels. Response institutions, including Civil Defense, the Red Cross, the National Police, and fire departments, remain on permanent watch, while calling on citizens to act with caution to prevent incidents.
