Agreement will boost educational programs in digital skills
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL) and the Dominican Republic Chapter of Internet Society (ISOC-DO) signed a collaboration agreement with the aim of promoting the development, access, inclusion and open and universal use of the internet, as well as fostering the adoption of new information and communication technologies in the country. This agreement was signed by the president of the Board of Directors of INDOTEL, Guido Gómez Mazara, and the president of ISOC-DO, Osvaldo Larancuent, who highlighted that facilitating access to the internet for people is a catalyst to boost their social and economic progress. Gómez Mazara highlighted the need to promote digital literacy in the country and considered the collaboration of the Internet Society as a fundamental support to expand initiatives focused on closing the digital divide and the access and meaningful use of connectivity.“Internet Society será un aliado fundamental en lo que es el objetivo esencial de nuestra gestión: colocar la tecnología al servicio de la gente. Como órgano institucional que regula, tenemos el compromiso de seguir promoviendo la posibilidad de que más dominicanos y dominicanas, no solo tengan el acceso, sino que le den una utilidad efectiva a lo que se llama conectividad significativa, y este acuerdo será fundamental para lograrlo”,
enfatizó.
"We applaud the initiatives that INDOTEL is developing, through its president, Guido Gómez, who has been promoting connectivity in rural areas where it is not clearly accessed. This is an opportunity to reduce the digital divide in the Dominican Republic," he indicated.
This agreement establishes a joint agenda to promote projects aimed at reducing the digital divide, expanding connectivity in vulnerable areas, and developing educational programs in digital skills.

Gómez Mazara was accompanied by the directors of the Legal Department, Domingo Rojas; International Affairs, Amparo Arango; Human Management, Juan Liranzo; Administrative, Mayra Cochón; of the BID Project Execution Unit, Jorge Roques; Telecommunications Development Fund, Pedro Taveras; Cybersecurity, César Moliné, among other collaborators of the institution. Also participated the vice president of the Dominican Republic Chapter of Internet Society, Juan Matos.
