The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and SMEs (MICM), and the Specialized Corps for the Control of Fuels and Merchandise Trade (CECCOM) closed the operations of two liquefied petroleum gas bottling plants, after detecting multiple non-compliances with the safety standards established in Resolution 201-17.
The closure was carried out due to the absence of several critical safety and operational elements, essential to guarantee a safe operation and in accordance with established standards. These deficiencies compromised the protection of users and all actors involved in the operation, which is why the measure was taken.
The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, Yayo Sanz Lovatón, was emphatic that no LPG bottling plant that fails to comply with safety regulations will be allowed to remain in operation, as the safety of citizens comes first.
Technicians also verified that the stations do not have internal safety valves with pneumatic, thermal, or remote actuation, indispensable elements to guarantee safety in LPG dispensing operations.
The suspension of operations was executed due to the aforementioned breaches of the safety provisions contemplated in Resolution 201-17 and the applicable international standards for that type of station.
The closure of operations of the Alicia Gas II and III bottling plants, both located in San José de Ocoa, were coordinated between the CECCOM and the DSCEE.
It is reminded that, according to current regulations, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes has the power to implement policies aimed at guaranteeing the supply of fuels at the national level, the safety of the facilities and facilitating their import, storage, transportation, distribution and marketing, both wholesale and retail.
